Hans Van Gestel, born and raised in The
Netherlands, has played the saxophone for over twenty years. With his first
band, 'Iris Junction', he played original Rock and Roll tunes. Next he moved
on to Jazz-Rock and joined bands like 'Moonshine and the Blaze', 'The Fats
Domino Cover Band' and 'Freetime'. He played in a few Big Bands, a jazz
quintet and toured the Dutch theatres with a show band named 'Antwood
Affair'.![]() The past ten years Hans has been living and playing in the Northwest of the United States and Ireland. He performed in places like 'Salty's on Alki' (Seattle), 'Daniel's Broiler' (Bellevue) and the 'Columbia Winery' (Woodinville). He played in a variety of bands but his Smooth Jazz solo performances were also in great demand. His most recent band in the US was Midnite Walk; a Seattle based Smooth Jazz/Funk band playing covers as well as original songs. Hans' musical influences include Contemporary Jazz / Smooth Jazz artists like Jay Beckenstein (Spyro Gyra), Michael Lington, Richard Elliot, Najee, Tom Scott, David Sanborn and Grover Washington. Hans plays everything from Rock and Roll to Funk and Blues but is best known for his Smooth Jazz sound. He plays a wide variety of saxophones; the soprano, alto and tenor saxophone.
